The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is a global community conservation organization that advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane Goodall by conversing chimpanzees and inspiring communities to conserve the natural world we all share, we improve the lives of people, animals, and the environment, we strongly believe everything is connected and everyone can make a difference. The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) was founded in 1977 by Dr. Jane Goodall, The JGI Tanzania with its partners makes a difference through community-centered conservation and the innovative use of science and technology, we work closely with local communities in Tanzania, inspiring hope through a collective power of individual action. Majority of young people in schools and communities are acquiring the knowledge and skills to become compassionate conservation leaders in their own environment through the Roots & Shoots program.

The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) is a reputable and rapidly expanding non-governmental organization committed to wildlife research, conservation, socio-economic development, and environmental education. JGI Tanzania performs its activities through its four Programs, these are Gombe-Masito-Ugalla (GMU) Program for Community-Centered Ecosystem Conservation, The Gombe Stream Research Centre (GSRC) Program for Wildlife Research and Roots & Shoots (R&S) program for Youths Environmental Education. 
JGI Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill the following vacant position: 

 

Job Position: Behavior Change and Communication Specialist 
Work Station: c Municipality 
Reporting Line: Finance and Administration Manager 

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities will include, but not limited to: 

  • Assist in developing and implementing the program’s communication strategy to support the implementation of the program.
  • Support the communications unit with the strategic communication and effective reputation management of JGI-TZ.
  • Preparing relevant communications materials, including website content and disseminating them effectively across key audiences.
  • Managing the Institute’s website and social media platforms, developing a content calendar and ensuring information is regularly updated.
  • Coordinating the media relations activities of the Institute, including drafting press releases, press briefings and organizing media coverage for events.
  • Monitoring and recording media coverage of LWCT Project.
  • Supporting the effective branding, documenting and dissemination of events.
  • Supporting the publication process for JGI-TZ’s various publications and her project partners.
  • Maintaining the communication mailing list and media database.
  • Placing all advertisements to the website of the Institute and maintaining records of the same
  • Following up on procurement processes relating to the work of the Communications unit.
  • Maintaining the Communications unit’s inventory.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the unit.   


Minimum Job Qualifications and other Requirements: 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism or a related field,
  • At least 5 years working experience in communication and behavior change,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to establish an effective relationship with other partners,
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
  • Ability to travel to the fields and remote areas regularly.
