Overview
Mwananchi Communications Limited, publishers of the leading Tanzania newspapers, Mwananchi, Mwanaspoti and The Citizen is looking for a motivated and highly experienced individual to fill the position of:
BUREAU CHIEF (1 Post for Mwananchi Newspaper – Morogoro)
Main Responsibilities:
- Develops reports and writes news and feature stories for the title assigned to in finished form, so that no major rewrite is required or no extensive additional report is needed.
- Takes notes on location, carries out interviews, checks facts and tape records as the case may be; writes news or features on own initiative, choice, and judgment or at the direction of either the news editor or section editor.
- The material so written must reflect a thorough understanding of the MCL’s style of journalism as defined in the editorial policy guidelines and objectives, the house style and the journalistic code of ethical journalism.
- Researches and provides background information to make copy complete.
- Briefs News Editor on stories gathered and writes the selected ones within set deadlines.
- Follows news leads and maintains close contacts with news sources.
- Continually builds his/her contacts list and demonstrates its value with consistent exclusive reports or information.
- Responds promptly to news breaks.
- Is primarily but not solely responsible for the correctness of facts, content, and style of his/her news materials.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Academic: Basic University Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication
Professional: Diploma in Journalism
Experience: 3-5 years journalist working experience
