Position Purpose

The EHS&T Officer will provide site-based environmental, health, safety, and training (EHS&T) advice, coordination, and administration support. The role involves partnering with site operations supervisors and employees to promote and adopt AUMSGT’s safety values and culture across the operation.

Essential Requirements

  • NEBOSH or OSHA Certification (NOSHC1 & NOSHC2 Certificate).
  • Proven experience in a similar role within an underground mining environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of prior underground mechanized mining experience and equipment operation.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Familiarity with Tanzanian regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and safety management information systems (SMIS) or digital incident reporting tools.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal, management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions dependably.
  • Strong sense of urgency and outcomes-focused.
  • Experience providing supportive specialist HSE&T operational advice to operations.
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to manage diverse, sometimes multi-cultural teams.
  • Well-developed time management and planning skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage operational and non-operational employees and contractors with demonstrated communication, influencing, and consultation skills.
  • Strong observation and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Appreciation for securing commercial and confidential information.

Desirable Requirements

  • Internal Auditor Qualifications (highly regarded).
  • Formal Training Qualifications (highly regarded).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guide employees on best work practices to ensure safe work processes are in place, understood, and consistently used.
  • Administer and apply HSE&T policies, procedures, and matrices, including developing site-specific HSE&T management plans.
  • Provide on-site inductions to ensure all employees and contractors are site-compliant.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of onsite personnel.
  • Participate in (and lead where appropriate at the local level) HSE&T improvements to meet operational and legislative requirements.
  • Provide technical support for accident investigations to ensure a thorough and documented approach.
  • Deliver accurate and timely local reports on HSE&T matters to relevant parties.
  • Attend and provide input to regular operations toolbox and pre- and post-shift meetings.
  • Provide HSE&T reporting and monitor local trends, communicating with relevant parties and following up accordingly.
  • Collaborate with relevant parties to implement solutions for recurring HSE&T issues.
  • Conduct training and verify competencies.
  • Support auditing of onsite machinery and equipment.
  • Provide HSE&T mentoring to operational personnel.
  • Administer and assist with the local return-to-work/rehabilitation process.
  • Observe safety procedures and use equipment and materials properly.
