The YWCA of Tanzania is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization dedicated to empowering women and girls to achieve justice, peace, gender equality, good governance, health and environmental care. We address community needs through relevant programs, focusing on girls, young women, and women. YWCA Tanzania is part of the global YWCA movement in over 125 countries, founded in 1855 and formally established in 1894, YWCA is the world’s oldest women’s movement. In Tanzania, YWCA was founded in 1959 and registered as a national organization in 1969 with its headquarters in Dar es Salaam. Currently, YWCA Tanzania has 20 operating branches and three groups across the country.
Job Title: Hostel Matron (2 Positions)
Location: YWCA Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Branch and YWCA HQ
Assist in managing hostel operations ensuring safety, cleanliness and excellent residents relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer inquiries, allocate rooms, maintain residents logs and update communication platforms.
- Ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
- Oversee daily routines, health and social wellbeing of residents and promote YWCA membership through them.
- Ensure safety and discipline of hostel residents by monitoring security, enforce hostel rules, manage visitors and oversee security.
- Supervise cleanliness, report damages, ensure water and utilities are available. nafasi za kazi
- Collect payments bank slips, maintain records, assist with budgeting and ensure compliance with policies.
- Conduct market research and support resident welfare.
- Standby and other duties, i.e. be available 24/7 during shifts, assist with other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Advanced secondary education (A Level or equivalent) or any relevant diploma in Education, Theology or relevant 2 years’ experience in similar roles.
- Excellent written skills in English and Swahili, with attention to detail as well as effective communication with staff, visitors and residents.
- Strong computer skills, including typing, data systems, and internet use.
- Good planning, reporting and time management abilities.
- Problem-solving skills for quick and accurate resolution.
- Respectful and professional in guest service, maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
- Ability to manage safety, cleanliness and resident welfare.
- Team player with organizational skill.
