Job Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to management and various departments on all legal and regulatory matters.
- Draft, meticulously review, and vet contracts, agreements, MoUs, and other critical legal documents to ensure the protection of the Company’s interests.
- Ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies across the organization.
- Effectively handle litigation matters, coordinating closely with external advocates on court cases and legal proceedings.
- Prepare comprehensive legal opinions and offer strategic recommendations on legal risks and implications.
- Proactively follow up on debt-recovery cases and provide support for the enforcement of legal actions as required.
- Act as a key liaison with regulatory authorities, government institutions, and other vital stakeholders on legal matters.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations, providing timely advice to management on their potential impact on the Company’s operations.
- Support disciplinary processes by offering sound legal guidance on employee-relations matters.
- Maintain proper custody and organized filing of all legal documents, contracts, and case files.
- Assist in the preparation of board papers, resolutions, and corporate governance documentation as needed.
- Conduct thorough legal due diligence and risk assessments for all Company projects and initiatives.
- Ensure the timely renewal of licences, permits, and statutory registrations.
- Support internal investigations and provide actionable legal recommendations on compliance issues. ajira
- Strengthen legal and compliance controls to effectively minimize legal exposure and operational risks.
- Coordinate effectively with external lawyers and regulatory bodies during inspections, audits, and legal proceedings.
- Conduct legal-awareness training sessions for staff on relevant laws and compliance requirements.
- Implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of legal operations.
Academic Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized and reputable institution.
- Admission to the Bar and possession of a valid Practicing Certificate will be a significant advantage.
- A minimum of five years of professional experience in legal practice or corporate legal affairs is a MUST.
- Previous experience working with Microfinance Institutions, Banks, Financial Institutions, Law Firms, or Consultancy Firms is highly preferred.
- Sound knowledge of corporate law, labour laws, contract law, and regulatory-compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in handling litigation, debt recovery, and legal documentation.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications and legal-management systems.
