Background

Enabel is the official Belgian Development Agency that is working in 19 countries globally. In Tanzania Enabel (formally BTC) focuses on water, natural resources, good governance, and agriculture. The Sustainable Agriculture Kigoma Region Project supports 20.000 farmers in 6 districts in the Kigoma region. The construction of bridges is an important component to improve access from farm to agricultural markets. The plan is to construct 70 bridges by the end of the project.  Stone arch bridge technology is used to make maximum use of locally available resources. The construction of rural storage facilities will be included upon local demand. The bridge component is currently scaled up.  For the expansion of the construction sites, an additional site supervisor will be employed and join the existing team. This is a hands-on position that requires daily traveling by motorcycle to the building sites. The duty station within the Kigoma region will be determined in the function of the construction sites.

The site Supervisor will Report to the Project Manager

Duty Station: Kakonko or Kibondo

Tasks

• Basic administration of the bridge construction projects (supervision works, site reports, measurements for payments).
• Regular site inspection with emphasis on quality assurance, meeting building/safety standards, respecting construction schedules and budgets.
• Liaise with TARURA for the certification and payments of craftsmen and contractors
• Liaise with the village governments and district councils for the mobilization of local building materials so that timelines and the local contribution are respected.

Your Profile?

Qualifications

• You must be a Tanzanian National(speaking English and Swahili)
• You hold At least a diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering  will be an added advantage

Required Experience

Experience: > 2 years’ experience of quality control of craftsmen and contractors

Required Skills :

• High awareness of construction quality standards and attention to technical details.
• Motorcycle driving license and experience.
• IT literacy to adjust bill of quantities, compile data (excel), and write inspection reports (word). Ability to use AutoCAD is a plus. Smartphone literate for transmitting pictures, data, and communication via WhatsApp.
