Position Overview: Underground Shift Supervisor
The Underground Shift Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily underground mining activities, prioritizing resources, machinery, and personnel to achieve targets set out in the mine plan. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our underground mining activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure mining operations are conducted safely and report any safety issues promptly to the Underground Manager and Project Manager.
- Plan daily production levels for the mine.
- Perform daily management, control, and supervision of the mine's working areas in accordance with all relevant Acts and Regulations.
- Oversee the mine and protect the principal's interests, ensuring duty of care to all employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Ensure each employee understands and accepts responsibility for their own safety and health, and that of their fellow employees.
- Organize and provide guidance to crews on rosters and day-to-day site operations.
- Conduct daily work planning meetings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure new staff are appropriately inducted according to AUMS and client requirements.
- Submit incident reports in writing to the Site Project Manager as soon as possible after any incidents occur on shift.
- Oversee the training of shift personnel and ensure all tasks are conducted safely. ajira
- Liaise with contractors on site, coordinating their work with other mining activities.
- Carry out crew training, including theory and practical assessments, and review each employee’s development, mentoring, and motivating employees as appropriate.
- Uphold company policy on discipline and counsel personnel accordingly (in conjunction with the Site Project Manager).
- Conduct performance appraisals on site personnel as directed and forward them to the Site Project Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of 10 years of Underground experience in mechanized Hard Rock mining.
- A minimum of 5 years in a Supervisory position in mechanized mining.
- Management or leadership development training.
- Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License and good driving skills.
- Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Understanding of drilling and blasting techniques.
- Understanding of equipment and human resource capability and productivity.
- Understanding of mine plans.
- Understanding of mining techniques and the ability to optimize mine production.
- Ability to communicate and liaise with both employees and site managers.
- Understanding of mining equipment applications.
- Ability to identify potential hazards and minimize risks.
- Understanding of explosives.
- Understanding of appropriate statutory and mining regulations.
- Ability to assess people's performance and potential.
