YWCA of Tanzania - Branch Secretary Position
The YWCA of Tanzania is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization dedicated to empowering women and girls to achieve justice, peace, gender equality, good governance, health, and environmental care. We address community needs through relevant programs, focusing on girls, young women, and women. YWCA Tanzania is part of the global YWCA movement in over 125 countries, founded in 1855 and formally established in 1894. YWCA is the world's oldest women's movement. In Tanzania, YWCA was founded in 1959 and registered as a national organization in 1969 with its headquarters in Dar es Salaam. Currently, YWCA Tanzania has 20 operating branches and three groups across the country.
Position: Branch Secretary (1 Position)
Location: YWCA Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Branch
Overview:
The Branch Secretary is responsible for overseeing all administrative and operational activities, implementing policies, managing resources, and mobilizing women and girls to join YWCA Tanzania. The role includes financial oversight, project coordination, member engagement, and representing the branch at events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the National General Secretary
- Manage administration, staff, and volunteers
- Oversee financials, including budgets, bank reconciliations, and statutory payments
- Ensure members recruitment, record-keeping, and membership fee collection nafasi za kazi
- Develop and implement income-generating projects and fundraising efforts
- Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and maintain records
- Represent the branch at national and regional events
- Collaborate with partners and promote YWCA activities
- Prepare annual work plans and progress reports
- Support project execution and community initiatives such as VICOBA groups, entrepreneurship trainings, and other relevant initiatives
Qualifications:
- Degree in natural or social fields, Theology, Education, or any related field
- Minimum 3 years of leadership and project management experience
- Good understanding of women, youth, and child development issues
- Strong communication skills in Swahili and English
- Committed to YWCA values
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili with the ability to work under pressure
