Position Summary

Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is looking for a laboratory technician to work with NC. TB – DAR project in Bagamoyo. The candidate will perform routine experimental laboratory test- mainly in the fields to produce reliable and precise data for scientific investigations in mycobacteriology and Molecular Biology. The candidate will work according to the study protocol, standard procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical and Laboratory Practice (GCLP).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Laboratory Technician will have a range of strategic functions as well as supporting functions of the Institute.  This position will support and advice the Grant officer on key matters related to these functions:

Strategic Functions:   

  • To perform laboratory analysis from sputum samples and other specimens as assigned by the TB laboratory manager   
  • To respond to queries, concerns and issues raised by the supervisor/principal investigator or a monitor To ensure that participant’s privacy and confidentiality are maintained   
  • To communicate with other study staff regularly at scheduled meetings and active participation in all meetings   
  • To ensure the study is done according to the working protocol and adherence to the ICH Guidelines of Good Laboratory Clinical Practice (GLCP)   
  • To maintain a close professional relationship with the government officials in the study area   To work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability, and integrity. To perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor   
  • Performing any other activities as instructed by the supervisor  

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma of Laboratory technology  Be able to produce high quality and accurate results inter-personal skills

Skills and Competencies  

  • Experience in GCLP compliant medical research  Self-motivated and highly focused attitude to work  
  • Computer proficiency  
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English  
  • Review and lead the standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures.  
  • Interview management and executive candidates.

Remuneration  

An attractive and competitive remuneration package will be offered to successful candidates as per IHI Administrative salary scales under short-term contracts.
