Go Green programme funded by Augustinus Foundation seeks to achieve the following overall objective: Contribute to increasing the number of women in Tanzania adopting and directly benefitting from clean energy products. The project’s theory of change, is that by directly linking rural women with viable business opportunities, the programme can increase household income for women entrepreneurs; by increasing provision and access to solar lamps and clean cook-stoves for Tanzania’s rural population, the programme can indirectly contribute to reducing health problems from indoor pollution, reducing the workload of women, saving fuel costs for families and reducing forest degradation. The programme will work across Hai, Same and Moshi Rural Districts in Kilimanjaro Region.

JOB SUMMARY

CARE Tanzania seeks a Program Manager who will be responsible to lead and oversee work in three districts of Kilimanjaro Region to provide access to sustainable energy solutions in rural Tanzania. Principal activities will include facilitating supplier/entrepreneur relationships, managing the delivery and quality of entrepreneurship training to women entrepreneurs, and to anticipate and mitigate challenges in supply chain and programme operations.

The Program Manager will provide overall leadership, coordination and management of the programme, and will be responsible for ensuring successful delivery and accomplishment of the core objectives under his/her responsibility.

S/he will also be responsible for providing strategic decisions on scaling up or sustaining key program initiative results, assist Program Officers (POs) assigned to the program initiative(s) for effective implementation of their respective activities.

The Program Manager promotes the highest level of staff performance and that ensures all supervisors provide coaching, mentoring and counseling to the staff. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key government partners, donors, and NGOs working in the same geographic areas.

S/he is expected to maintain effective working relationships with other CARE staff working with other CARE program initiatives and impact groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Program Initiative Planning and Implementation
  • Anticipate and mitigate challenges and changes in the business environment
  • Liaise with suppliers to understand needs and opportunities to improve business opportunity for Women Entrepreneurs
  • Explore financing options including through and with VSLAs for rural consumers, especially women, to increase their access and purchasing of green energy products
  • Uncover new opportunities to develop and test business models for last mile green energy products for rural women
  • Budget and Resource Management
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Reporting
  • Development: Identifying funding opportunities for the program
  • Networking, Learning & representation
  • Promote Gender Equality

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • At least three (3) years of solar industry, retail energy industry, or similar experience as a B2C product, channel sales manager, or business development manager;
  • Experience using an entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving
  • Project management experience
  • Strong educational background in a relevant field of study, Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred;
  • Prior experience managing a business, pricing & portfolio margin management and sales channel relationships;
  • Strong analytical skills that can support and validate key pricing, product, and sales decisions;
  • Excellent relationship, influence and communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, partners and project stakeholders;
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated high achiever with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and plan work and manage to deadlines;
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Kiswahili and ability to demonstrate confidence and competence in a wide variety of settings.
  • Awareness of the informal financial services space in general and informal savings groups in particular (VSLAs, VICOBA, SILC) preferred
